Karim Jamal

Karim Jamal Ph.D, FCA, is a Professor and Chartered Accountants’ Distinguished Chair in Accounting at the University of Alberta. Dr. Jamal graduated with a B.Comm (Hons) from the University of Manitoba, a MSC from the University of British Columbia (UBC), and a Ph.D from the University of Minnesota. He is a Chartered Accountant in Alberta, and a member of the Canadian Academic Accounting Association (CAAA), and the American Accounting Association (AAA).

Dr Jamal is the chair of the AAA’s Financial Accounting Standards Committee (FASC) which provides scholarly opinion and discussion to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) in the U.S. Dr Jamal also provides scholarly advice to the Accounting Standards Board of Canada. Dr Jamal is a member of the Board (and of the audit committee) of the International and Canadian Board of World Computer Exchange, an NGO which strives to bridge the digital divide by providing computers to schools in third world countries.

Dr Jamal has also been a member of the audit committee of the Edmonton Community Foundation for 10 years. He has numerous publications in research and professional journals in accounting, psychology and economics, published in Canada, the US and the UK.
