Robert Sroufe, Ph.D.

Robert Sroufe is the Murrin Chair of Global Competitiveness in the John F. Donahue Graduate School of Business and Director of Applied Sustainability within the Beard Institute at Duquesne University. He is also a faculty affiliate of the Institute for Energy and the Environment, and the Center for Green Industries and Sustainable Business Growth. Prior to his current position, Robert has been a faculty member at Boston College and instructor at Michigan State University while also working for the Department of Defense, National Pollution Prevention Center, and the Center for Microbial Ecology.

Dr. Sroufe is an award-winning scholar and teacher. These awards include, instructional innovation and best environmental papers from the National Decision Sciences Institute. Within the MBA Sustainability program, he develops and delivers courses on sustainable theories and models including life cycle analysis, business applications of sustainability tools and processes for new initiatives, and he oversees action-learning consulting projects every semester with corporate sponsors. On multiple occasions, the MBA Sustainability program at Duquesne has been ranked in the top ten MBA programs internationally by the Aspen Institute’s bi-annual rankings for its integration of sustainability into business school curriculum, while also receiving a Page prize for the best United States Environmental Sustainability Curriculum.

As an active researcher and consultant, he is primarily interested in Sustainable Business Practices, Environmental Management Systems, and Sustainable Supply Chain Management. He has lead projects on sustainability, and environmental management while working with companies such as 3M, Alcoa, Baxter, Dow Chemical, DuPont, EMC2, FedEx Ground, Ford Motor Company, Herman Miller, H.J. Heinz, Honeywell, IBM, Intel, KPMG, Lucent Technologies, Office Depot, P&G, Westinghouse and numerous Tier I suppliers within the automotive industry. Robert received his Ph.D. in Operations Management from Michigan State University.
