Steven Nahmias is Professor of Operations and MIS at Santa Clara University, where he has served on the faculty for over 30 years. He was formerly department chair and director of the Competitive Manufacturing Institute, and holds the University award for sustained excellence in scholarship. He has undergraduate degrees from Queens College and Columbia University and holds the Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Operations Research from Northwestern University. Professor Nahmias is internationally known for his research in inventory control and stochastic modeling. He has served on the editorial boards for Operations Research, Management Science, Naval Research Logistics, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, and the Production and Operations Management journal.

Dr. Nahmias has served as a consultant to a variety of firms and agencies including Litton Industries, Xerox Corporation, IBM Corporation, LEX Automotive, and Tropicana, among others. He is perhaps best known for his book Production and Operations Analysis, which is currently in its sixth edition. The book has been used in over 100 universities in the United States and around the world including Harvard, Columbia, Stanford, Berkeley, and University of Pennsylvania to name a few. It has been translated into Spanish, Chinese, and Hebrew.

Professor Nahmias also has an active life outside academia. He is an accomplished jazz trumpeter and plays with several bands in the Bay Area. He also enjoys playing golf with his wife Vivian.
