David M. Wasieleski

David M. Wasieleski is an Associate Professor in the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business at Duquesne University, and chair of the Management and Marketing Department. David completed his doctorate in Business Environment and Public Policy in the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. He received a B.A. in Economics and a Certificate Degree in Accounting from Pitt, and an MBA from Duquesne University. His academic research focuses on natural science approaches to understanding ethical decision-making and the formation of social contracts within organizational contexts. He also studies the effects of cognitive biases and moral intensity on perceptions of ethical issues. His work has been published in Business & Society, Business Ethics Quarterly, and the Journal of Business Ethics. His article (with Sefa Hayibor), “Evolutionary Psychology and Business Ethics Research” won the Article of the Year in Business Ethics Quarterly for 2009. At Duquesne, he teaches business ethics, organizational behavior, management, and public policy. In 2008, he won the Educator of the Year award in the business school at Duquesne, and again in 2011 for the MBA program. David also holds the Research Chair for Ethics and Innovation at the ICN Business School in Nancy, France.

As a member of the Academy of Management, he reviews papers for the Social Issues in Management Division, for which he now serves as Associate Editor, and the Organizational Behavior Division (received the Best Reviewer Award in 2007). He served as Chair of the Book Award Committee of the SIM Division (2008-2009), and was Chair of the Membership Committee of the SIM Division (2009 and 2010), Research Committee (2014-15), and as Professional Development Workshop Chair in 2016. He has participated in the SIM Doctoral Student Consortium and organized the “Cognition in the Rough” workshop for the Management and Organizational Cognition Division from 2007-2010. In 2013, he chaired the Keynote Speaker Committee for SIM and the SBE. He is Program Chair of the SIM Division in 2017.

David has been very active in other service to the discipline as well. He is Associate Editor for the Ethics track for Business & Society and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Business Ethics and the Journal of Organizational Behavior. He holds the position of North American Editor for the Journal of Business Ethics Education, and sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Organizational Moral Psychology, and Business Ethics Review Journal. David is also an Associate Editor for the Sage Business Ethics Encyclopedia, due to be published in 2016.

His work on ethics and behavior has been cited in the New York Times, The Atlantic, and on the BBC. He has written an op-ed piece for the Pittsburgh Business Times on cheating behavior in organizations, and he appeared on the Canadian Broadcasting Company national radio show, Spark, for an interview on Facebook and privacy.
